Procrastination Have you ever
put off something that needed to be done and then felt bad? Simply
put procrastination means “to put off intentionally and habitually”
or “to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be
done. Do you know of anyone who has not procrastinated at some time
in their lives? Procrastination is not always a bad thing. It is only
when it creates stress, guilt and even crisis in you life that is
becomes a problem.
If you
consistently put important things off until you have a crisis in your
affairs and then feel stressed or guilty. Even the worst
procrastinator does not procrastinate in every area of their life. In
fact, there are activities you wouldn’t dream of procrastinating:
watching a
Super Bowl game or going to your favorite restaurant to eat your
favorite food.
Procrastinators are made not born. I have never heard of a newborn
baby popping out of mom’s tummy and the doctor saying Yep!! This one
is a procrastinator.
You see, there are many reasons a
child may grow up and label themselves as a procrastinator. One such
reason is a response to an authoritarian and controlling parent, which
keeps children from developing the will to regulate their own
behavior, it can even be a form of rebellion. Perfectionist can use
that as an excuse because they feel they must to the job perfectly the
first time; no mistakes and thus, they put off starting a task.
If you have labeled yourself a
procrastinator, and you believe you are a procrastinator, then,
you will surely be a procrastinator.
Your UNCONSCIOUS mind believes what
you tell it and then it sets out to create what you believe about
yourself.
You see, there are many excuses for
putting things off. Perhaps you wait to the last minute before doing a
task because there is a kind of last minute rush; you are stimulated
by working under pressure, or maybe you are someone who avoids the
task for fear of failure or possibly even success, then, there is the
person who can’t make a decision thus, they are absolved from
responsibility for the outcome.
Regardless of what motivates you can
change that old programming. Your mind is like a computer. A
computer has different types of memory. It takes information into a
temporary file and then if it is perceived to be believable and true
it is then stored on the hard drive, your memory bank.
You have a conscious and UNCONSCIOUS
mind. The conscious mind is in the dominant position on an every day
basis. The conscious mind generally rejects information that it
receives unless it is determined to be believable and true. If it
believes the information, it accepts the information and stores it in
your UNCONSCIOUS mind and uses it as needed. The information that is
stored in the unconscious may or may not be true. Your unconscious
mind is similar and yet different. You can change old programming and
allow the unconscious to teach your conscious what it needs to know.
Procrastination
is often caused by associating some form of pain or unpleasantness to
the task you are considering. Perhaps you will be surprised to
discover the way to STOP PROCRASTINATING……is simply reduce the pain
and increase the pleasure associated with the task.
Aristotle said, “The end of labor is
to gain leisure”.
Much of our
unwanted behavior is unconsciously created over time because of the
traumas we have experienced. Even minor incidents can have a profound
affect on the unconscious mind. Your repetitive thoughts have a
powerful affect on your unconscious mind. You can change your
behavior by changing your thoughts. Make a list of the positive
things you wish to experience in your life then, direct your
unconscious mind using the words “I AM”, for example:
I AM calm
I AM at peace with my circumstances
I AM successful
I AM healthy
I AM pain free
I AM abundant
I AM
efficient and do what needs to be done in a timely manner.
You can make up any affirmation you
choose by simply including the word “I AM” in front of it. It is
even more powerful if you can feel the emotion, i.e., feel healthy…
feel successful… feel abundant. If you don’t know what it feels like,
make it up. Your unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference.
Hypnosis is a powerful tool for transformation. It is most affective
in a one-on-one session with a qualified Hypnotherapist, however, if
